CDZA [YOUTUBE MUSIC CHANNEL]

CDZA was founded in 2012 with the mission of connecting conservatory-trained musicians to online video audiences. My team is made up of Michael Thurber and Matt McCorkle. The response has been incredible, and the mission is set in stone. We want to show that playing instruments is still relevant and fun, and there's no better proponent of that vision than using highly skilled, virtuosic musicians who love music.

THE OFFICE TIME MACHINE/THE OFFICE STARE MACHINE [for fun + copyright reform advocacy]

I spent 1.5 years - by myself - finding over 1,300 references to anything in real-life culture and put it in an interactive time machine that lets you explore 5,500 years of history. The mother of all supercuts. During this time, I also found 706 times characters silently stare at the camera, and indexed them into a human-emotion stare machine. I did this with good friend Aaron Rasmussen, who built the machines.

6 years after Seven Minute Sopranos, I'm editing a billion clips together and narrating everything with childhood friend Paul Gulyas, who wrote it.

STAGING ZOMBIES IN A RED LIGHT TRAFFIC TICKET [ZOMBIE BLOOG ENERGY DRINK]

In 2010, we loaded an LA intersection full of zombies, blew a red light, and received a 500 dollar ticket in the mail promoting ZOMBIE ENERGY BLOOD. It was the best 500 dollars a marketing budget could be spent on.

FIRST CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE GAME ON FACEBOOK

Realizing that you could put different bit.ly links in the descriptions of photos, I figured, naturally, a "choose your own adventure" game could be created using 45 different albums and photos linking to different decision trees. This game is called "Choose Your Own One Night Stand", where you have to have sex with the character you choose.

FIRST INTERACTIVE SLOT MACHINE GAME ON YOUTUBE

Using YouTube annotations, I inserted over 1,300 annotations, some of them rotating ever 2 tenths of a second, to recreate the infamous slot machine from Super Mario Brothers 3. Surprisingly functional, the game was a promotion for Mana Energy Potions. People get amused when Mario has Yoshi's legs.

FIRST INTERACTIVE PHOTO HUNTGAME ON YOUTUBE

The YouTube annotations technology allowed for a pub throwback, when I created the first ever photo hunt game, splitting the screen into link fields that you need to spot the difference in. The game was comprised of 30 levels, and was tied into promoting the 2008 Oscar nominees.

TUPAC IN KAZAKHSTAN [INTERSCOPE RECORDS]

I took a 10,000 mile road trip from England to Mongolia, and shot this for the sole purpose of proving that Kazakhstan is much more than just borat and camels (though there are plenty of those, too)

IPHONE 4 PRANK

To promote AirBnB, I "booked" the first place for the launch of the iPhone4 in San Francisco. When a reporter from ABC interviewed me, I strategically said my name was "Gray Powell", the name of the man infamous for losing the iPhone4 prototype months prior.

6 Hours after Google Instant Search was announced, I scrambled to throw together this video which demo'd the product in glorious instant action.

PULP WAVE FICTION

When Google Wave came out, the best explanation of what the product was was a 70 minute Google I/O walkthrough. The best demos are the ones people can not only see familiarity in, but can be entertained with. This exploded on the scene, praised as an effective tool for communication.
